It's nice to meet you!

I am so excited to be your child's 2nd grade teacher this year!
Since I was a little girl, I've wanted to be a teacher.  But, life put some forks in my                                                                           road,  so instead of majoring in education, I got a degree from Illinois Wesleyan                                                                               University in Political Science and History.  After a few years in public relations, I                                                                           went back to school to become  a lawyer.  I practiced a short time before deciding to                                                                     be a full-time mom to my 3 children.
Being a mom is awesome and I have loved every second so far and look forward to                                                                       the moments still to come.  Between play-doh sculpting, car racing, and Webkinz                                                                           collecting, I found every opportunity I could to put myself in the role of teacher, from                                                                     scout leader to classroom volunteer, and finally as a substitute teacher here at Big                                                                       Hollow.  Finally, I decided that you're never too old to set a goal and reach for a                                                                               dream so I enrolled  in a Masters In the Art of Teaching program and earned my                                                                             teaching credentials this past spring from National Louis University.
I'm looking forward to putting my education, my life experiences, and my love for learning to work in your child's life as we tackle the fun year of second grade together.  I believe that every student can learn and achieve; it is my goal to create a positive classroom and help each child discover how to best accomplish their success by meaningfully engaging them in their learning.
I live in Valley Lakes with my family and have been a part of the Big Hollow community for over 13 years.  My son, Mason, is currently an 8th grader in the middle school, my daughter, Emma, is a senior at Grant after finishing K-8 in our district, and my son, Alex, passed away in 2012 when he was a 6th grader here at Big Hollow.  In addition to being a part of my children's experiences here at Big Hollow, I served one four-year term on the school board (until I realized that, while I was doing good for our kids, I really wanted to be IN the classroom making a difference).  Big Hollow is in my heart and I am blessed to be able to share that with you and your child.   I'm excited to begin my 3rd year as a 2nd grade teacher at Big Hollow.
In my free time, I love to read books, spend time with my kids, take walks with my dog, Pepper, play the piano, listen to show tunes (especially Hamilton and Wicked), watch football (Go Grant Jr. Bulldogs and Chicago Bears!), have fun with my friends, and learn more about being a teacher.
